Why I built this site the simple way

This site is deliberately boring technology. Every page starts life as a Markdown file in a Git repository. When I publish, a GitHub Action turns those files into plain HTML with Hugo, packages them into a small nginx container, and my home server pulls the new image.

There’s no database, no admin plugin to patch, and nothing on the server that runs code when you load a page. Cloudflare sits in front, and Traefik routes the traffic to the container.

My experience covers capital allocation, debt and equity transactions, treasury, and governance, along with rapidly assessing risk, building controls, and earning the trust of owners and Boards under time pressure. I’ve worked as a strategic advisor to CEOs and Boards through periods of significant commercial change, with firsthand exposure to critical minerals, diamonds, potash, regulated infrastructure, and early-stage technology.

I’m a senior finance executive based in Perth, Western Australia. Over more than 15 years I’ve worked in ASX-listed mining and resources, regulated utilities, and technology, across Australia, Canada, and Brazil, from the remote Ekati Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories to Board rooms in Perth.

Most of my career has been spent building and steadying finance functions: standing up a new corporate function after South32’s demerger from BHP, refinancing debt, putting in systems and controls, and helping CEOs and Boards think through capital decisions.
